Short answer: Nevada is the most restricted state for prediction markets. A state-court preliminary injunction entered on May 18, 2026 bars Kalshi from offering sports, election and entertainment contracts in Nevada; Polymarket US, ProphetX and Novig are not offered, OG does not offer sports contracts, and none of our partners' welcome offers is valid here. Why Nevada Took the Hardest Line

Nevada licenses sports wagering through the Nevada Gaming Control Board↗ (opens in a new tab) and the Nevada Gaming Commission. In July 2026 the Board's chairman said the Board "has successfully restricted the operation of all unlicensed prediction markets known to be operating in Nevada". Board investigators had been able to enter contracts Kalshi was barred from offering, and Kalshi agreed to a third-party geofencing system rather than be held in contempt. What Nevada Residents CAN Trade

On Kalshi, the Nevada injunction covers sports-, election- and entertainment-related contracts. Other Kalshi categories, such as economic data, crypto and weather, are not covered by that order; check the app for what a Nevada location can access. Polymarket US, ProphetX and Novig do not accept traders located in Nevada, and OG says Nevada residents cannot trade sports contracts on OG.

What Nevada Residents CANNOT Trade

On Kalshi, the court order covers sports, election and entertainment contracts. That includes:

  • NFL game, futures and Super Bowl markets
  • NBA, MLB and NHL games and futures
  • College football and college basketball contracts, including UNLV and Nevada Wolf Pack markets
  • Election contracts, including the November 3, 2026 midterms
  • Entertainment contracts such as award shows

Best Platforms for Nevada Residents

Nevada is the hardest state for prediction-market sign-ups in 2026. Polymarket US, ProphetX and Novig are not offered in Nevada, OG does not offer sports contracts there, and the current welcome offers from Kalshi, Polymarket US, ProphetX, OG, Novig and Rebet all exclude Nevada (Novig eligibility; Rebet sweepstakes rules). We don't recommend a prediction-market sign-up from inside Nevada right now.

Kalshi existing accounts: check the app for which non-sports markets a Nevada location can access; the Kalshi welcome offer does not apply in Nevada.

If you travel, status depends on where you are physically located when you trade. Neighbouring California and Arizona have different statuses (see below).

How NV Residents Sign Up

For non-sports access on Kalshi, standard prediction market sign-up applies:

  1. Check in the Kalshi app which markets are open to a Nevada location
  2. Provide name, address, date of birth and Social Security number details
  3. Upload a government-issued ID for KYC
  4. Link a bank account and deposit in US dollars
  5. Trade only markets not covered by the court order

Kalshi's minimum age is 18; we recommend 21+. Kalshi had to put a multi-source geofencing system from a third-party provider in place, so location checks apply. Using a VPN to get around a geofence breaks platform terms and can lead to account closure.

Tax Considerations for NV Residents

Nevada has no state income tax — making it one of the most tax-favorable US states for trading. Federal tax still applies to gains from event contracts, but the IRS has not issued guidance on how they are treated; see our tax guide.

Kalshi provides a profit-and-loss statement for your trades; platforms' 1099s mainly cover interest, rewards and crypto transfers. NV residents who use both licensed sportsbooks (W-2G reporting on qualifying wins) and prediction markets (platform profit-and-loss statements) should track each separately.

Dates we are watching: Nevada's responses to the Robinhood and Crypto.com Supreme Court petitions are now due November 13 and 16, 2026 (both extended in October), and Kalshi's response to New Jersey's petition is due November 9, 2026 (deadlines can be extended); the earliest the Supreme Court could act on the petitions is a conference in December 2026 or January 2027 (our estimate, not a scheduled date); Kalshi asked the full Sixth Circuit to rehear the case on October 9, 2026, and the court has not ruled; the CFTC's October 9, 2026 interim final rule takes effect only when it is published in the Federal Register, which had not happened as of October 14, 2026; the Ninth Circuit has not yet decided Kalshi's request for a rehearing by the full court.
