ProphetX is the first sports-native prediction market in the US cleared to run its own federally regulated exchange. On June 11, 2026 the CFTC approved it as both a Designated Contract Market and a Derivatives Clearing Organization, ending its sweepstakes era. We funded an account in August 2026 and traded it through preseason NFL, MLB and college football.

What Changed in June 2026

Before the approval, ProphetX operated first as a state-licensed exchange and later under a promotional-play model in around 40 states. Neither gave traders federal protections. The dual licence replaced both: contracts are now listed on a CFTC-supervised market and cleared through ProphetX's own clearing organization, customer funds sit segregated from company money, and the exchange carries ongoing reporting and capital obligations. Practically, it means you deposit dollars, you trade contracts, and you withdraw dollars — no coin packages and no sweepstakes mechanics.

Sports Only, on Purpose

ProphetX lists sports and nothing else. There are no election markets, no Fed contracts, no weather, no awards shows. That is a real limitation if you want one app for everything, and a real advantage if you only trade sports: product decisions, market depth and settlement speed all point at one audience. Coverage is strongest in the NFL, NBA, MLB, NHL and major college football and basketball, with the usual game-level contracts plus a growing player-performance catalog.

Peer-to-Peer Pricing — the Core Idea

Every contract on ProphetX is matched against another participant. There is no operator setting the price and no house margin inside it, which is why the platform markets itself on bigger payouts for the same outcome. Two things follow. First, you can post your own price and wait: during our testing about two thirds of our resting orders filled. Second, your price is only as good as the other side of the book — on thin markets you pay for the privilege of immediacy.

Fees

ProphetX charges a commission on trades rather than embedding a spread, which makes the cost visible instead of hidden. For active traders the combination of no house margin and a transparent commission is the cheapest structure we have measured among sports-focused venues. Always check the fee shown on the order ticket before confirming.

Money In, Money Out

We funded with a debit card and the balance was available instantly. Bank transfer and the usual instant-pay options are supported. Our $180 withdrawal reached the bank in two business days with no fee, which is in line with Kalshi and faster than most crypto-native routes. Identity verification took under ten minutes, including the SSN check every CFTC-regulated venue requires.

Apps

Both the iOS and Android apps are stable, and the desktop site carries the same order book. The order ticket is closer to a trading app than to a betting slip, which takes a few minutes to get used to but pays off once you start posting prices rather than taking them.

Where It Falls Short

The narrow catalog is the headline drawback — if you want politics or macro contracts you will run ProphetX alongside [Polymarket](/reviews/polymarket) or [Kalshi](/reviews/kalshi). Liquidity outside marquee events is still building, and the clearing operation is only months old, so its record under stress is unproven.

Who Should Use ProphetX

Sports-first traders who care about price quality and want to set their own level rather than accept a posted one. Pair it with Polymarket for everything that is not sports.
