As of April 2026, Kalshi has voluntarily restricted sports event contracts in 9 states pending the resolution of state-level legal challenges. All other contract categories remain available in every state.

The 9 Restricted States

  • Arizona (AZ)
  • Illinois (IL)
  • Massachusetts (MA)
  • Maryland (MD)
  • Michigan (MI)
  • Montana (MT)
  • New Jersey (NJ)
  • Nevada (NV)
  • Ohio (OH)

These restrictions apply specifically to sports event contracts. They do not affect any other category.

What You Can Still Trade in Restricted States

Even in the 9 restricted states, you have full access to:

  • Macroeconomic markets (FOMC, CPI, GDP, jobs)
  • Political markets (elections, approval ratings, Senate control)
  • Crypto markets (Bitcoin/ETH price, ETF outcomes)
  • Entertainment markets (Oscars, Emmys, music charts)
  • Climate and weather (hurricanes, temperature anomalies)

For most macro and political traders, restricted-state status does not meaningfully limit Kalshi's value. See full Kalshi review →

Sports Alternatives in Restricted States

If you live in a restricted state and specifically want sports markets, the following platforms operate under different state arrangements:

  • DraftKings Predictions — operates with state-specific availability. Review →
  • FanDuel Predicts — expanded to all 50 states January 2026. Review →
  • Fanatics Markets — sports-first, varies by state. Review →

State availability changes frequently as litigation progresses. Check each platform directly before depositing.
